When detailing the sizes of the Maria Tash studs you will hear references to post lengths, gauges and frontals. The frontal is the visual part (example the diamond) also known as the focal part or the front piece. The piercing bar that is inserted into your ear is sized as the post length, while the gauge is the thickness of the post. The flat back studs typically feature Maria Tash's threaded flower backing as pictured further below. They are supplied in a 19 gauge (0.9mm) thickness, roughly the same thickness as earring posts that use a traditional "friction" or "butterfly" backing. Featuring internal threading they are superior in every way including maximising hygiene, achieving a secure fitting and providing ultimate comfort (no more spikey backs). The posts are available in various lengths to suit your ears unique anatomy. For those who prefer, the classic butterfly backing (suitable for lobes only) these are also available in the single, one size fits all, standard length.
The post measurement is the full length of the piercing bar part only - measured from the inside of the flower along the post. The gauge reference is the thickness of the bar. Your piercer may be able to advise your size, or alternatively you can measure an earring you may already be wearing for a comparison.
